Curriculum Intent:

Citizenship aims to inspire and empower students to become thoughtful, active citizens. The curriculum encourages curiosity about the world and builds knowledge of democracy, government, and law, developing skills to create reasoned arguments, present diverse viewpoints, and undertake citizenship actions. Students gain valuable critical thinking skills, learning to recognize bias, weigh evidence, and consider alternatives—skills valued by higher education and employers. Citizenship explores topics such as Life in Modern Britain, Rights and Responsibilities, and Politics and Participation, grounding students in the principles of democracy and the legal system. The final unit, Active Citizenship, allows students to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, supporting our school’s STRIVE values and British values.
